Everything the ‘Friends’ Cast Has Said About Matthew Perry’s Struggles Through the Years

Matthew Perry openly struggled with addiction and other health problems while he was on Friends.

His co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer were always there for him, supporting him in public and behind closed doors.

From 1994 to 2004, the six actors were on the NBC comedy for a total of 10 years. Perry went to rehab twice while playing the famous comedian Chandler Bing, which made him more and more popular.

After an accident on a jet ski in 1997, he went to get help for his Vicodin problem. Besides that, he drank too much and was hospitalized in 2000 for pancreatitis.

Perry focused on telling his story after he got clean. In 2002, he told The New York Times, "I didn't get sober because I felt like it." Because I thought I was going to die the next day, I got sober.

Perry told the New York Times in October 2022, a few weeks before his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing came out, that he had been sober for about 18 months.
